About Gothic Metal

Gothic metal is heavy music with a broken heart. It emerged in the early 90s, when Paradise Lost slowed doom down and dressed it in melancholy, Type O Negative added vampiric wit and baritone gloom, and The Gathering brought ethereal vocals into the fold. The result was a genre built on contrast: crushing guitars against lush keyboards, harsh vocals against clean or operatic ones, and themes of romance, loss and the beautiful side of darkness.

The gothic metal on AI Metal Radio carries that tradition forward. Expect slow-burning, atmospheric tracks, symphonic arrangements, haunting melodies and plenty of songs that move closer to gothic doom or symphonic metal. It's music for rainy nights, candlelit rooms and anyone who likes their heavy music dramatic.

The Veilspire is the most-played gothic metal artist on the platform by a wide margin, followed by Crimson Requiem and Derek Bowes. Start there, hit Play All for the latest releases, or save the genre as a playlist.
