Born into poverty and forced into the king’s army, Katja is shaped into a hardened, disciplined fighter. But after witnessing starving villages robbed and punished in the name of obedience, she finally refuses an order to make innocent people kneel. She turns on her officer, escapes the village and becomes a hunted deserter, keeping only the armour and weapons that helped her survive.
