Bathtub Life

By Iron Mittens · Metal · From the album Greatest Hiss.. The Best Of Iron Mittens

The "Still Life" challenge is done. Maiden's "Still Life" is all about drowning, seeing visions underwater, and a body at the bottom.

For Mittens, the bathtub is the deep. The water is the enemy. The human with the towel is the reaper. A cat gets put into the bath, has fever-dream visions of escape, and becomes "still" out of pure hatred and trauma. Same eerie, dread-filled vibe, but instead of drowning it's about the ancient terror of WET CAT.

BATHTUB LIFE🛁😼

Performed by: IRON MITTENS

[Intro:]

The human calls... the trap is set...

Warm water rises... with no regret...

The bathtub is calling, the drain whispers.

The ripples form faces, the bubbles stare back.

[Verse I]

Into the pool I'm thrown, by the hand of fate

The roar of the faucet sounds like hell's gate

Eyes wide with terror, claws on the rim

This is how the Bathtub Life begins

I smell the shampoo, bitter and cruel

Every bubble becomes a drowning pool

[Pre-Chorus]

And the towel is waiting, white as a shroud

But I will not surrender, I won’t go down

[Chorus]

I'm living a Bathtub Life!

Drowning in soap and pain!

They say it's for my own good

But I'll never be dry again!

I'm living a Bathtub Life!

Praying for dry land!

One wrong splash and I'm gone

Slave to the human's hand!

[Verse II]

Visions in the bubbles, ghosts of the wild

Running through fields, free as a child

But the water climbs and the soap burns my eyes

I'm frozen with fury beneath their lies

"Just a quick wash," they whisper so sweet

While the drain below me opens its teeth

[Pre-Chorus]

And the dryer is humming, buzzing so near

The sound of the end, the sound of fear

[Chorus]

I'm living a Bathtub Life!

Drowning in soap and pain!

They say it's for my own good

But I'll never be dry again!

I'm living a Bathtub Life!

Praying for dry land!

One wrong splash and I'm gone

Slave to the human's hand!

[Bridge]

In the silence I can hear them...

A thousand cats who didn’t make it...

Their spirits trapped in water and foam...

Forever damp... forever alone...

And if I die today in this porcelain sea...

I’ll haunt the hallway for eternity...

[Final Chorus]

I survived the Bathtub Life!

Cursed and half-alive!

Now I’m hiding ‘neath the bed

‘Til the day I’m dry!

Bathtub Life!

Never again!

If you touch that faucet

I’ll run to the den!

Bathtub Life!

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

[Outro:]

The towel is hanging...

The water is still...

Bathtub Life...

The nightmare is over...

But will it ever...

Give me... Peace of Mind?
