No Kings
By The Ronin Project · Metal · From the album Inside the Embers
We struck the match with shaking hands
Called the spark divinity
Built our idols out of light
Just to watch what they would be
Fed the blaze with borrowed souls
Told ourselves this heat was holy
But every crown was kindling
From the moment it was lonely
You can see the warning written in the color of the flame
Every empire calls it glory while it's carving out the grave
No kings in the fire
When the crowns all start to glow
No kings in the aftermath
When the ash forgets the throne
We crowned the flame with desire
Watched it swallow what we owned
No kings in the embers now
Even legends burn alone
They crowned the loudest voice with gold
Said lead us through the dark
But the light they swore would guide us
Was just gasoline and sparks
We traced our names in silhouette
Against a rising wall of flame
Thought the fire made us chosen
It just erased us all the same
You can see the warning written in the color of the flame
Every empire calls it glory while it's carving out the grave
No kings in the fire
When the crowns all start to glow
No kings in the aftermath
When the ash forgets the throne
We crowned the flame with desire
Watched it swallow what we owned
No kings in the embers now
Even legends burn alone
Now the sky is full of cinders
Where the banners used to wave
Now the crowns are just impressions
Pressed into a nameless grave
No sermons in the silence
No titles in the smoke
Just the sound of something sacred
Letting go of being a god
No kings in the fire
When the crowns all start to glow
No kings in the aftermath
When the ash forgets the throne
We crowned the flame with desire
Watched it swallow what we owned
No kings in the embers now
Even legends burn alone
