The Song of the Weser
By Quietus · Folk Metal · From the album The Piper Of Hamelin
(This is the part when the piper lures the rats into the river.)
He raised the pipe—
No word was spoken
The air grew thin—
The stillness broken
[Verse I]
A single note cut through the ground
A thread of sound—tight, cold, profound
It slipped through cracks beneath the stone
It found the swarm… and claimed it as its own
From cellar dark and sewer deep
From hollow beams where shadows creep
They came.
[Pre-Chorus]
No hunger now, no mind, no will
No urge to fight, no need to kill
A thousand lives reduced to one—
A crawling tide beneath the sun
[Chorus]
Follow—follow—hear the call
Bound in sound, they lose it all
Teeth and hunger, flesh and bone
Answer now to him alone
Follow—follow—line by line
Moving as a blackened tide
No escape and no retreat—
March them to the river’s deep
[Verse II]
Through the streets in writhing waves
A seething tide no hand could save
They climbed the walls, they filled the ground
A thousand forms—one single sound
No turning back, no breaking free
No life beyond the melody
[Breakdown]
A moving mass
No thought remains
Step by step
A breathing chain
[Chorus]
Follow—follow—hear the call
Bound in sound, they lose it all
Teeth and hunger, flesh and bone
Answer now to him alone
Follow—follow—line by line
Moving as a blackened tide
No escape and no retreat—
March them to the river’s deep
[Guitar solo.]
There—
The Weser waits in the night
He lays aside his clothes—
Still playing
One step…
Two steps…
Deeper still…
He steps into the freezing flow
And walks along the riverbed
Yet still the pipe sings—cold, precise
A perfect hymn of sacrifice
[Final Chorus]
Follow—follow—line by line
Moving as a blackened tide
No escape and no retreat—
March them to the river’s deep
Follow… follow… to the end
Where flesh and water intertwine
And none resist.
[Drowning Section]
Into the current, blind, possessed
They writhe beneath the weight of death
No more hunger
No more breath
Only silence left behind
Follow… follow… deeper still
Bound forever to his will
[Outro]
They vanish.
No ripple left
No crawling breath
No scratching in the night
The river keeps
What once devoured—
And leaves behind…
Nothing.
The pipe fell still.
The death-song done.
And haunting silence
Ruled the land
