The Betrayal

By Quietus · Folk Metal · From the album The Piper Of Hamelin

(The price refused.)

The streets lay still.

No sound remained.

No scratching in the walls

No mice in the grain

[Verse I]

The rats were gone—

A town restored…

Gold weighed heavy in their hands

But heavier still was their greed

[Verse II]

“The rats are gone. The work is done.

We need no piper now.”

Greedy eyes and shuttered doors

Voices hushed and low

A promise made in desperate fear

Now buried and forgot

[Bridge]

“No coin for tricks.

No gold for song.

It was a spectacle

But we can't afford it

He asks too much

For what is done.”

[Piper’s Presence]

He stood alone within the square

No anger on his face

No shouted curse

No raised demand

No sign of rage…

Only silence in betrayal

[Final Section]

Only silence—

Cold and vast

As something sealed

And something passed

[Outro]

Then he turned—

And walked away.
