The Alabaster and the Beast

By Necroplasm · Death Metal · From the album Aporia of Life, Fear, and Mind.

Lyrically, the song is a dark philosophical exploration inspired by the poet Garcia Lorca's concept of Duende. It illustrates the violent ideological war between two gods of art:

Apollo: The god of form, clean lines, and the beautiful, controlled dream. He represents the safe, sterile, "alabaster" perfection that leaves no lasting impact.

Dionysus & Duende: The god of wine and ecstasy who tears the tidy self apart, dragging the artist down into something older and wilder.

The narrative demands that the artist abandon the safety of perfection, let the mask slip, and face the animal underneath. It warns that performers who play it safe and never bleed will be forgotten come the morning.
