In Imperial China, the ultimate punishment was Lingchi. The executioner systematically removed small slices of flesh from the victim's body over hours or days. The goal was to keep the heart beating while the body was reduced to a skeleton. Every cut was a calculated move to ensure the victim remained conscious and fully felt the agonizing disintegration of their own physical existence....
