A dream-built, hollow seat.

There was a time when both of these

Were "is" and "what could be",

Yet undeservedly there came

The "shall" and destiny.

Always wanting better things,

Never owning what was near,

Greed or wild ambition's drive...

Stained everything so clear.

Bloody, savage struggles fought,

Intoxicating, blind desires,

Power and the victories won,

Torn-up longings, burning fires.

In the setting sunlight's glow,

Dancing motes of dust display,

Showing clearly to the end,

That it's all the same today.

We bring nothing with ourselves

Onto this terrestrial way,

And we depart with nothing left,

Bidding life our last farewell.
