Dillinger

**Dillinger**

I've always been fascinated by the outlaws of the Depression era - guys who became folk heroes while robbing the banks that had just robbed everyone else. John Dillinger was the ultimate middle finger to authority. Broke out of Crown Point with a wooden gun and a grin. The public cheered for him while J. Edgar Hoover lost his mind trying to catch him.

This track is pure groove metal aggression - that Pantera stomp where the riff just makes you want to put your fist through something. I wanted it to feel like a chase, like Purvis and the feds are always one step behind. The gang shouts are the public egging him on, because back then people loved watching the system get embarrassed.

The Biograph theater ending is where it all comes down. The Lady in Red, the setup, three shots in an alley. Out of time, out of luck. But for a few years there, Dillinger lived more than most people ever will.
