The Top Floor

By Acoustic Invasion ยท Progressive Metal

**The Top Floor**

Everyone wants to get higher. Nobody asks what they're standing on.

This one started with a question: what happens when you finally reach the top, and the doors open onto the same room you left? It's a song about climbing: past the lobby, past the people with paper cups, past everyone you promised you'd remember. Then it asks who is holding the keys. By the end, you already know.

Musically, it rides a dark, cinematic blend of progressive rock, alternative metal, and atmospheric textures. Heavy when it needs to be, restrained when it matters, with layered guitars, melodic vocals, deep grooves, and an arrangement built around tension, movement, and release.

Written by Acoustic Invasion. Lyrics are my own.

**Lyrics:**

They painted numbers on the doors

And called the lowest one a home

I learned the smell of every floor

Before I learned to leave my own

The elevator never stopped

For hands that reached it from below

But every morning suits went up

With somewhere else to go

And every floor became a promise

Every promise had a price

Everyone's climbing for the top floor

Nobody asks what's underneath

We keep adding one more level

Till the weight comes through the beams

If I make it to the ceiling

Will there be anything to see?

Or just another door above me

And who's holding the key?

The lobby filled with polished shoes

The basement filled with broken glass

They changed the locks, they changed the rules

And screwed new plaques above the brass

A woman held a paper cup

Beside the fountain made of stone

While someone three floors up explained

How fortunate she'd grown

And every floor became a border

Every border had a price

Everyone's climbing for the top floor

Nobody asks what's underneath

We keep adding one more level

Till the weight comes through the beams

If I make it to the ceiling

Will there be anything to see?

Or just another door above me

And who's holding the key?

I reached the floor they warned me about

The windows opened to the sky

There was a city far below me

Small enough to justify

I looked for all the hands I'd stepped on

All the faces I had passed

But the glass reflected only me

And someone standing just behind

One more floor

One more reason

To hold my tongue

One more door

One more level

And I can't stop climbing

HOW HIGH

IS HIGH ENOUGH?

HOW MUCH

CAN WE HOLD?

BUILD IT

BREAK IT

CALL IT

GROWTH

Everyone's climbing for the top floor

Now the ceiling's underneath

All the weight we put above us

Is coming down through everything

I can see the streets from here

I can hear them through the glass

And the higher that I climbed

The less I had to call my own

Everyone's climbing for the top floor

But nobody owns the sky

We were measuring the distance

While the cranes kept swinging by

If I tear down every staircase

Where would anybody be?

Or would I just be standing

On the rubble, holding every key

The elevator keeps on climbing

Past the numbers

Past the signs

I press the button for the top floor

And the doors open

To the same room
