Split the Dark (Music Video)
By Acoustic Invasion · Alternative Metal
A boy learns to separate himself from something he can't name — and spends the rest of his life trying to put it back together. "Split the Dark" moves through a confrontation with an unnamed presence, a slow excavation of buried belief, and a reconciliation that never resolves into comfort.
Lyrics:
I woke with a pressure behind my brow
Three small points of warmth
pressed beneath the skin
I see that face when the room goes thin
A pale grin caught in the corner of sleep
It never speaks in a human tongue
It only tilts its head and waits
as if it knows the boy I hid
I reach toward the glass
It steps back
I call its name
The room turns black
Then somewhere underneath the fear
a quiet laugh says
you are near
I fall through the floor behind my eyes
Past the furniture, past the clock
Past every door that learned to lock
I surface with my teeth clenched hard
and scrape the film from the eye I hate
Not heaven
Not some promised throne
Just dirt on a lens
I mistook for my own
In
Out
Hold
Release
Count the ribs
Count the floor
then count no more
There was a sentence chalked beside the door
I could not read it then
but I carried the sound
through every argument
I spent years sharpening questions
until the questions became the cage
The answer was sitting
where I left it at eight
There you are
I know that face
I know those eyes
I know that place
I thought the long road finally closed
Come sit with me
Come stay awhile
You turn the whole machine upside down
Then you run
then you run
Why do you run from me?
Black wings cut across the ground
A crow hangs over the vacant lot
its beak points straight at what I forgot
I kneel where the dry earth breaks
Find a tooth
a rusted key
a child's sleeve
The hands are older
The mouth has learned to lie
But when I look into those eyes
something answers from inside
Two bright points
burning blue-white
I hear a tune I used to know
Just four notes
passed mouth to mouth
There you are
I know that face
I know those eyes
I know that place
I thought the long road finally closed
Come sit with me
Come stay awhile
You turn the whole machine upside down
Then you run
then you run
Why do you run from me?
Why do you run from me?
I split the dark
I split the dark
I split the
Dark
I thought the door was locked by fear
Teacher after teacher
gave the wound another name
Till the voice behind my forehead said
take the furniture out
So I pulled the scripture from the walls
I pulled the little god of certainty
from the hinge beside the door
Just the terrifying possibility
that I have been the one
drawing every line
And there you stood
Not punishing me
Standing exactly where I stopped looking
You thought I had left the room
I thought you had gone with the smoke
Two fools circling the same room
I chased commandments
You chased me
I spent so long trying to reach you
and never noticed you were reaching back
There you are
I know that face
I know those eyes
I know that place
I thought you left through the door
You thought I fled
We were both wrong
I was circling scripture
You were waiting beneath
I opened the eye
I opened the eye
and found myself
The medicine fades
The morning arrives
The walls reclaim their names
And still
I remember the weight of that gaze
So I go digging
I find the child beneath the argument
the frightened thing beneath the grin
I bring them upstairs
one at a time
This is not escape
This is inventory
I SPLIT THE DARK
I SPLIT THE DARK
I SPLIT THE DARK
In
Out
In
Out
Feel the skull
In
Out
Don't ask what's on the other side
DARK
Not for revelation
DARK
So I can see the hand
that keeps reaching through
DARK
So I can recognize the child
when the child looks back
There you are
I know you now
Not as a god
Not as a stranger's face
You are the witness
and the wound
And when you run
I will not chase
I will sit with the empty chair
and ask why I needed it filled
Split the dark
Split the dark
Not to escape the world
Split the dark
The door was never locked
Split the dark
DARK
The key was warm the whole time
Split the dark
Split the dark
