05. Becoming

By Phantum Quields · Metal · From the album Infernal Recurrence

Lyrics:

Within the lightless depths of the rift where the canopy hides the sky,

We huddled in the shadows while the ancient seasons passed us by.

Our lineage was bound to the hunger and the terror of the beast,

Upon the red-toothed earth we found our grim and primal midnight feast.

The self was but a dormant seed beneath the strata of the grey,

Awaiting for the lightning strike to turn the darkness into day.

We moved as one mindless pulse through the dark of the cavernous stone,

And perceived the void of the cosmos in the silence of the bone.

Into the light of the first true day,

The silence of ages is torn away.

A sunlit plane where the Animal dies,

And the ‘I’ awakens with burning eyes.

No longer blindfolded by the instinct's shroud,

We stand upright as new age looks down.

Then like a thunderbolt that fell from the firmament to strike the marrow,

The pathways of the mind ignited with an archer's burning arrow.

I look upon my hands that now are architects of all we own,

And find the muddy dark is scorched by seeds of wisdom we have sown.

The cave is now a tomb for all the instincts that we left behind,

As existential vertigo descends upon the waking mind.

We stand as strangers to ourselves in this baptism of fire and thought,

Within the crimson history that our nascent souls have wrought.

Into the light of the first true day,

The silence of ages is torn away.

A sunlit plane where the Animal dies,

And the ‘I’ awakens with burning eyes.

No longer blindfolded by the instinct's shroud,

We stand upright as new age looks down.

Into the light of the first true day,

The silence of ages is torn away.

A sunlit plane where the Animal dies,

And the ‘I’ awakens with burning eyes.

No longer blindfolded by the instinct's shroud,

We stand upright as new age looks down.

Into the light of the first true day,

The silence of ages is torn away.

A sunlit plane where the Animal dies,

And the ‘I’ awakens with burning eyes.

No longer blindfolded by the instinct's shroud,

We stand upright as new age looks down.

Sapience...

...a new sun.
